Slices Magazine Pioneers Of Electronic Music Richie Hawtindocumentary

31 Oct

I’ve been digging what the folks over at Slices Magazine have been doing for a while. They are creating some truly engaging content and have been on my entertainment rotation for a while. I’ve been consuming much of their video catalog lately too.

I enjoyed watching this video and wanted to share it with you. Its a 70 minute documentary featuring Richie Hawtin(aka Plastikman) and some of his contemporaries are featured too. Daniel Miller of Mute Records is one of them. The documentary covers his many accomplishments and the lengthy career he has managed to create for himself.

I still remember the first time I heard his Plastikman LP’s. I own several of those albums to this day. I vividly remember being truly mesmerized with what he could do with just a Roland TB-303 & some Roland XOX drum machines/boxes and a Korg Wavestation. Sometimes I think he may have played a small role in my love for all things minimal in music.

If you are a fan of Richie Hawtin, and lets face it if you are into electronic music, you must be!,…then give this video a spin. Its worth it!

Alan Greenspan Throws Republicans Under The Bus On Bush Tax Cuts

10 Oct

Because of the ACA, our business is suffering through lower insurance costs for the first time ever. In spite of staff aging up, our provider has lowered our premium costs. We were accustomed to double-digit increases for most of the last decade.

And now mom-and-pop businesses that make the sacrifice to provide insurance for their employees will have a more level playing field against those businesses that neglect their moral obligation to their workers. Consider this — if your business model depends on a paying a non-living wage and pushing your workers into the safety net (provided by others), then you are not an entrepreneur; you are an exploiter. To borrow a popular hate phrase: You are not a producer; you are a parasite.

I request that you serve the people of Missouri and reject the politics of GOP obstruction at all costs.

Ron Paul And A Quick Lesson About The Tea Party

REP. HENRY WAXMAN: The question I have for you is, you had an ideology, you had a belief that free, competitive — and this is your statement — “I do have an ideology. My judgment is that free, competitive markets are by far the unrivaled way to organize economies. We’ve tried regulation. None meaningfully worked.” That was your quote.

You had the authority to prevent irresponsible lending practices that led to the subprime mortgage crisis. You were advised to do so by many others. And now our whole economy is paying its price.

Do you feel that your ideology pushed you to make decisions that you wish you had not made?

ALAN GREENSPAN: Well, remember that what an ideology is, is a conceptual framework with the way people deal with reality. Everyone has one. You have to — to exist, you need an ideology. The question is whether it is accurate or not.

And what I’m saying to you is, yes, I found a flaw. I don’t know how significant or permanent it is, but I’ve been very distressed by that fact.

REP. HENRY WAXMAN: You found a flaw in the reality…

ALAN GREENSPAN: Flaw in the model that I perceived is the critical functioning structure that defines how the world works, so to speak.

REP. HENRY WAXMAN: In other words, you found that your view of the world, your ideology, was not right, it was not working?

ALAN GREENSPAN: That is — precisely. No, that’s precisely the reason I was shocked, because I had been going for 40 years or more with very considerable evidence that it was working exceptionally well.
